Employer did not give me hours to work and later terminated me without notice. What legal grounds do I have for fines in court?

My previous employer hired me back in December and slowly fazed me out of the work schedule in February, due to slow business. I called every week on Tuesday (when schedule was made) and was told repeated I had no hours. I spoke with the store manager and she told me I would be scheduled when my performance improved. I literally had no scheduled hours for 4 weeks. I finally spoke to the head manager yesterday (March 15th) and she told me I was terminated (2) weeks ago without any notification. She added that I abandoned my job and then told me that I was merely part-time. My understanding was that I was not working due to poor performance not part-time. Also back in January I noted to a manager if I should worry about finding a new job, she assured me that I would be fine. Can I do anything legally for minimum wage back pay or try to retaliate my status to laid off to collect unemployment?
