Employment Agency Causes Job Loss?
Find answers to your legal question.

Employment Agency Causes Job Loss?

I was headhunted, verbally offered a job, told it was 110% guaranteed and instructed to hand in notice at current co. as I was going on holiday and they were awaiting contract to send to me. Come back from holiday, current co. accepted notice and new job not materialised. I know I should have waited to get offer in writing but was strongly advised to hand it in to afford early start date for new role. Do I have any options for compensation to cover my financial commitments until I can secure another job?

be realistic it wasn't the agency that triggered your job loss, it was you handing in your resignation. it was caused by your dissatisfaction with where you are working now, or possibly your greed or wish to move on.

you may have grounds to appeal to the agency to see if they can now find another posting.. but thats nothing ore than moral or emotional blackmail, neither of which I think will work with an agency (mind you it would be a first to find a recruitment agency with either morals or scruples but y'never know)

so what are your options.. you could go groveling back to your current employer with some claptrap that you've thought it over, it's be a wrench to leave, could you come back etc.... but if i were them I'd tell you to get stuffed.. you've decided you want to move on so move on you must.

Silly s*d!!! - next time - get WRITTEN contract signed BEFORE you act rashly.

A verbal contract is not worth the paper it's written on.

if there is nothing in writing then that is what you have ~ nothing!

You have no options for any kind of "compensation" - you already know this. You cannot expect anything unless you have it in writing!

Verbal promises dont count for anything.

Well, as you and other people have identified the lack of a written evidence of an offerer is a problem.
In theory, yes you could sue the employer for failing to make good their offer - a verbal contract is legally binding. The problem you will have is proving it - do you have a witness?
If not, it will be a case of your work against their's.

oh seems like we're having sort of same problem.

But you have handed in the letter in written, as the agency will not bare on that though.

just because somebody changed their mind, down the line...? go force the issue w/ who ever strongly advised you, to get you some temp. work to get you by.........
