I'm in NC and recently was charged with DUI #2. The first was almost 3 yrs ago. I'm strongly considering moving to NYC to get an apartment, new job, and use their mass public transit system since I'll have no license for 4 yrs. My question is this: Does anyone have experience on trying to get a job that doesn't require driving after more than one dui? Are employers less likely to hire you even if the job doesn't require driving at all because of the 2nd dui conviction? No persons or property was harmed either time. I've been assessed and am not an alcoholic. I was stupid and got caught. I'm thinking of getting a job as a dogwalker, and taking classes to be a fitness trainer or security guard. Trying to learn from my mistake and pick up the pieces here so any intelligent input is welcome

I've also had 2 DUI's,I'm going on 10 years since the first(the second was the night the first got dismissed)
Since then i've totally changed my attitude,don't drink.
I've had absolutely no issues getting a nice paying forklift operator job,moved on to load boss,then from there became a ford dealer technician and recently i'm also working part time at an autozone store.
The first thing you have to do is be honest. I told every one of them up front when they asked what happened.
I was being ignorant and just didn't care. I've since grown out of being an idiot and don't drink.
I explained everything I did,that it wasn't even the worst simply what they caught me doing.
The most important thing is to be totally honest and be totally over any kind of issues dealing with that type of behaviour or attitude.
I've had and look forward to absolutely no issues with finding a job due to DUI's.
It was a past action,it's my present and future actions that dictate who I am today and tomorrow. |

Well, I've been there before. First of all, you can't leave N.C. until you complete your obligations to the court like DUI class. You can't take DUI classes in N.Y. for N.C. crimes. I cannot drive either. That's why I have to work at home:
Earn extra money at home by sitting at your computer. This is easy work that requires no experience or skills. Usually stay at home moms and teens do this for spending money.
