Finding a Law Job?
Find answers to your legal question.

Finding a Law Job?

Why can't I find a Law Job. I have a B.S. with the core in Psychology/Criminal Justice, and also Certified Paralegal. It seems I just can't find a career. I have applied for almost 300 jobs in less then a year. I had to put my student loan on hold because I just can't afford it. I just can't take it anymore.

What sort of "Law Job" are you looking for? What do you want to do? Where are you located? Well, you sound frustrated, but without knowing more about your situation well... I'd hate to try to guide you. That is quite a lot of applications, though. Have you any experience? Are you trying to break new ground here? Alas, I need more info to help. Good luck.

Not to be a smart a** but you have not been reading the newspapers lately. What jobs? The national unemployment rate is 5.5% as of last month! Today the democrats put a bill on the table to extend unemployment benefits for an additional 13 weeks. Whether or not it passed I have no idea. Obviously these two facts says it all. I have friends who are attorneys and engineers and they are unemployed....

maybe you need to lower your sights and take any job so you can built up your work record mean you will just have to keep net working with the police/and other law enforcement offices!!!

It may have to do with your area, if you are not in a large city/area there may be less opportunity becuase the law firms there are simply smaller. I am assuming you are looking at paralegal/legal assistant type positions? Also have you looked into those jobs in the area of intellectual property? That field is growing and growing, definatley not drying up. Experience is a big factor, you may have to start a little below where you want to be and work your way up. Most importantly, work on networking (try contacting alum from your University who work at good firms in your area, I have a friend who got her job at a firm that way), I work at a major law firm and I got here through a contact of mine, almost every new hire here has a contact on the inside, they don't even post jobs online because they don't need to. Good Luck!

I know exactly where you are at. But there aren't any jobs!!! (I agree with "Shane", above.)

Warning: Jobs in the field of Law are drying up FAST!!! Reasons: very bad economy, people think they can do their own law work now thanks to the web, law schools (including those that train legal support staff) are simply churning out TOO MANY(!!!!) graduates to be supported by today's economy, law office employees are beginning to realize that law offices are very political and competitive and bosses generally do not have their employees' best interests in mind.

Suggestion: Go into the field of healthcare <<<LOTS of jobs there!!!! (even with your background).

Good luck. Don't give up - the economy is really bad right now.
