Fired from job, does it hurt your chances with other employers?

My employer terminated my employment when I returned to work after vacation. Fact is the company is in dire straights for money due to sales are down. My actual job was eliminated. Three months ago another position was eliminated and part of those duties added to my job. That part of the job is the one I was fired from. I didn't find out my main position was eliminated until one of the other employees called to tell me that my job was divided between two others.
What do you say in a job interview to explain this because I should have been laid off instead of terminated?
