I don't believe anyone should be judged on their credit history, like they say "bad things happen to good people"!!! Good Luck !!!!

Personally I don't agree with credit checks for employment but I believe they use it as gage of your responsibility. If you're not responsible enough to pay your bills, perhaps you're not a responsible or honest employee either.

Of course, this doesn't take into account folks who can't pay bills due to so many different reasons that don't have any correlation to their level of responsibility.

Like I said, I don't agree with it. I think it's ridiculous...but hey...who am I?

It depends what you are applying for. I am an apartment community manager and at the company I work for they do both credit and criminal checks. Our management company does not accept a prospect that is looking for an apartment that owes an apartment community. The way they see it is if we would not qualify to live at the property, why should we be able to work there. Does that make sense?

I personally believe it is ridiculous and I have been in Human Resources over 15 years (Presently Acting COO at my place of employment.) The belief is if the individual has a poor credit history he/she will lack in other areas professionally. I have eliminated this type of check and only request this check if the person is applying to our warehouse or its a position dealing with money. Other than that if our receptionist or secretary has a bad credit history what is she going to do? Steal our pens and pads?

A credit check is not used to see if you qualify for credit. Rather it is used to see "Does this person have a wage garnishment or an arrest warrant out?" We are looking to see if this person is going to have a number of financial issues through the courts that are going to interfere with their ability to do the job we are hiring them to do. If you have all this public record stuff going on then you are going to be in court, the police, multiple garnishments coming in on you that the employer has to deal with, child support order to have to handle.
