Found new job, got fired cause old boss said I was a thief?

was let go after 6+ years from a restaurant for a stupid incident, never have been written up for anything in the time I had been there. Recently found a new job and was terminated before to long, found out the reason was that my old boss told the new place that I stole from him and was a thief so lead to my termination at the new establishment, do I have a case of defamation of slander, this is messing up my life and costing me a ton to where bankruptcy is now probably my next option

If you stole something, then you may not have any other choice. But if you didn't steal anything, then that is slander and defemation of character by your old employer and you should talk to a lawyer and call the board on both jobs to talk to the head bosses about this incident. |

You mention a "stupid incident". Well, did you steal something, or not? Your prior record of no writeups has nothing to do with this situation. If you DID steal something, then it isn't defamation or slander, it's the truth. If you did NOT steal anything, and your old boss knows that, then you might have a legal case. |

If you can prove that the allegations made against you are false, you have a slander case. If you actually did steal from the company (or if you acknowledged that you did so, for example, you signed termination documents stating that you stole), then you don't have a case. If you are considering bankruptcy, you probably are not in a position to be able to afford legal assistance anyway. Sorry..... |

Well, that all depends on whether or not you actually stole something from your former employer. If you did, then he's only telling the truth and there is no defamation of character. Don't use him as a reference in the future. |
