Full Time Employee?
Find answers to your legal question.

Full Time Employee?

I have been with my company on and off for 2 years. But this year, I have been with them for about 9 months. I am a full time employee ( supposedly ) but lately, I have only been getting 6 hrs and to make matter somehow utterly unfair. We can't produce work without our sales team. Often i see them in their oh so called meetings and stepping out returning for god knows how long. I think its unfair that while they go out to their lunch/bar supposed meeting and comes back with no work, that we suffer for it? At least budget our pay too. I understand its not easy to be in sales and there are other factors to it.

My boss says i can't have my full time hours because there is no work? Is that even legal? While the sales are on salary. I highly doubt, they would pay attention to the workers hours? I mean after all ( their pay is fixed ). Whats bothering me, is that i think they should do something about our hours? I mean full time is full time right. Is it legal? Help

P.S - I am a full time worker in my paper

Your company can give you as many/ or as few hours as they want. It is legal for them to cut your hours.

Yes it's legal, your boss can give you however many hours he wants to... he can cut you down to halftime, quarter time---whatever he wants... that's just the way it works...

I suggest looking for another job.. get ahead of what's obviously looming in the near distance... quite your job and get another one, before they quite on you!

Be careful.......there are a LOT of people out there that don't even have a job right now.

Start looking for another job.......QUIETLY.

I know in most states, if you're labeled as a full time employee, you have to have a minimum of 32 hours a week.

I don't think they have you labeled as full time if you're only working 6 hours.

Check with your personnel person and see what they say.

Sorry but it is legal for them to change your hours or time you work depending on when they need you.

If you are in the US, and are working in a position that is "work at will", which most are, then ti would surprise me if there was a law that covered number of hours. There are wage and hour laws that differ depending on where you work. If you are in the us you can go to www.usa.gov and search "wage and hour laws" and the state you are in to do some research.

If the company is not producing enough work to keep you employed for the number of hours you wish, it may be time to start looking for another job.

Also, if your sales people are 100% salary, they must have some kind of production goal to meet. If they are on any type of commission structure (draw against salary, % of salary, etc), and are not able to produce, they too are probably earning less, but just in a different way - and likely in jeapordy of losing their job.

yes it is legal, but as few people know you can collect unemployment to make up the difference in wages, call your local office and they will guide you through it
