so i finished my undergrad with a b.a. in economics in the summer. but my gpa is horrible so i can't really apply to grad school. i'd like to get my mba, but i dont have work experience thanks to our current economy. i do have an internship at the moment, but i hate it since i feel like im hardly working. so i feel like becoming a paralegal would be a good move.
but ive read lots of conflicting things, especially about being a male paralegal. is it really hard to get into the profession when youre a male? i specifically want to go into corporate/intellectual property (b/c i have some exp with patents and i hear its lucrative), does anyone have any insight in those sectors? what is the actual avg pay i can expect with a b.a. + certificate, ive heard so many different things and that it depends on your geographic location. what should i expect in the bay area of california?
should i just go for the certificate or would it be a step-back and a poor investment? i'm thinking of quickly because earlier the better i think.

Transitioning into a paralegal career is not something you can do quickly.
An ABA certificate program will take at least 9 months and even after that you probably won't be able to find paralegal employment until you have some legal experience (even as a law clerk).
It will be YEARS before you make a decent income as a paralegal. I'd say pick a different career (I'm a paralegal and just trying to warn you). |
