Hi i have a few questions, i was fired last week with no explantion. I understand WA is an AT-Will state. I was receiving salary and i have been told that my pay will be pro-rated for the week i worked, (was fired during middle of pay period) but i have also been told since i was salary i will get paid my full salary for the pay period. Also am i required to receive any notice at all or can they just walk in and say your fired....leave. This is a retail store in the local mall. We have already sent a certified letter to the company with a written request as to why i was terminated, but again i do understand this is an at will state. Any help would be appreciated. If you can provide links it would be great also.

I am assusming when you mention you were on "salary" that you were an "exempt" employee.
The first and last week's pay for an "exempt" employee is for hours worked only.

They can just walk in and say "you're fired - leave". And you wasted your money on the certified letter - they aren't required to give you any reason, verbal or written - you were an employee at will. They must pay you for the time you actually worked, up to the time you were terminated, but there is no legal requirement for them to pay you for the full pay period. |

they do not have to provide an explanation and yes they can walk in fire you for any reason, |

Washington State Dept of Labor should answer all your questions.Do go to the unemployment office and file a claim immediately.They can fire you at will but should have given you a explanation.
