Good resources to learn about being an IP lawyer?

I come from an engineering background but have been encouraged by a college to look into becoming an intellectual property lawyer. I have to admit I have no idea about practicing the law or specializing (later on) in IP related things. Could someone post some helpful books or URLs to read more about it? Job progression and pay etc?

for a start try WIPO web site. there may be some links to good web site.
you can google for wipo (i.e. world intellectual property organisation)
I think it is the big brother
hope this helps.
