HELP!!! Being reassigned Day Shift Supervisor....?

A little history, I am in law enforcement - more specific I am a supervisor of a 911 emergency center assigned to night shift (my preference).
Because of some recent problems I had (personal) which affected my performance and proficiency (my fault), I am being reassigned to day shift, day supervisor so I will be working more closely with upper management for the next 6 months while I am on probation to improve.
I'm okay with this - I allowed a personal issue to interfere with my performance something I have never done during my career.
My question is, the ones I will be supervising are employee's I worked with side by side before I was promoted. I need some tips on how to be a good supervisor to those I worked with but now I supervise?

I know I can not be their friend, but I certainly do not want to be their enemy either.

My main goal after self-evaluation, and regaining back my self respect, is to focus on my job and my job responsibilities and polish my skills.

Supervising those who you worked with can be very trying and challenging.

Remember, you as the supervisor know our job, and your job responsibilities and focus there. If a problem arises, get your facts before you act.

Don't look for problems, handle then as they come about. As for the ones you have worked with before you were promoted, if they respected you as a co-worker then they will probably respect you as a supervisor, there is a fine line and be sure you yourself don't cross it.

If you don't have the answer, then let them know that you are checking into what question they may have and you will get back with them, remember don't forget do what you tell them you are going to do.

Remember, beside being a supervisor or leader; someone who will be influencing your group to move towards its goal setting or goal achievement, be their coach, their mentor but most of all don't just be a team leader, be a part of the team....

It's real tough to be a supervisor of the same people you worked with before. At times it can be tough to separate that part of not being friends especially if you've known these people for years. I'm in a similar situation and it's got to be the hardest thing ever. You just got to put your foot down first before they walk all over you and try to take advantage of you, easier said then done I know. Even little things can snowball into bigger issues down the road.
Sorry not much help but Good luck on the position.
