This was signed NOV 21 for 7 weeks, but if unemployment is 6% or higher, (which it is in NJ) it could go another6 weeks I believe. Any feedback?

I had it right but you are incorrect, the second phase of the second extension is 6 wks, not 5. Would bring the total of both extensions to 26 wks. Max total one may collect would be 1 year.

Yes, I have. You don't have it quite correct. The 7-week extension is for everyone who is still unemployed and seeking work after they use up their original 13 weeks. Every state gets that Then, if your state has an unemployment rate of 6% or more for three consecutive months, then everyone on the 7-week extension who still qualifies at that time will get another 5 weeks. NJ has had two consecutive months at 6% thus far -- Oct. and Nov. When the number comes out in Jan. for Dec.'s rate, we will know. What I'm not sure about is, if your 7 weeks run out before Jan., can you pick up the 5 weeks if you're still unemployed when the numbers come out? Maybe someone else knows that? |
