I worked for five years in a job where I could - and was - called out anytime between 8 p.m and 8 a.m. I don't think I ever really slept properly. I couldn't really cope with sleeping whilst it was light. It didn't seem to matter how thick the curtains were. I never had any problems eating meals at strange times. However forget any social life. You can really only meet up with people on a regular basis who work equally crazy hours. The money was good though. At the time I thought that was reasonable compensation for the downside. Now I'm not so sure.

I worked 3 years on nights 10 pm to 7am.

Hated it.

I never got adequate sleep. sleepy all the time.

And I had to force myself to stay up all night on my days off so I could stay awake when I went back to work.

My dad works the night shift, 10-6:30. Hates it. Never got to see his kids grow up and could never attend school functions b/c he was always so tired. He's worked there 20 years. He worked the night shift b/c the pay was SO much better, but in the long run his health is poor, and he's depressed that he was never around, so it wasn't worth it.

I worked nights for two years, 20.00 till 08.00 wasn't bad. night went quickly and I was fine sleeping throughout the day, however my social life took a battering. No one wants to go for a drink at nine in the morning, and at nine at night it feels wrong when you have just woken up.
