I am 58 years old. I can't tell you how many times that I have been laid off and recalled and done without work. It is no picnic I know, but you have to keep trying. I have been between jobs more times than you can count. NEVER GIVE UP. You can't just put in one application a day and wait for them to call you. You have got to go out and put in twenty-five and keep calling them and asking if they have considered any one for the position yet. Be a little forceful. |

I'm going on 7 months too....
But I decided to try my hand at my own small business.
So technically, I'm still employed, but my business is failing pretty bad ~ gaining contracts, and making good contacts is proving to be quite the challenge in my field.
Overall, I feel that I'm unemployed because I haven't been paid for about 3.5 months (like a full time position...Oh how I miss that). And I haven't got any government assistance. :P
Luckily I have savings, or i'd be on the street, with a coin jar singing my a** off!! :)
Don't worry, 2 months is ok: Depending on your profession and location / economy, you'll find job openings are almost seasonal...In my field, for some reason it really heats up around the quarter year mark..Then it's pretty quiet through mid year.
What I'd likely do in your situation is if your very desperate to find work and you've had a hard time, don't limit yourself to your area or district....Look outside, consider re-location and keep pluggin' away at it. Getting your name out to a vast number of possible businesses can only be beneficial to you.
I found my first job when I looked in areas I didn't want to, or didn't dream or working... Thats when the floodgates opened and I got a chance at a position in my field.
And remember: nothing is permanent. Alot of employers are looking for experience, but it's tough if you haven't got any. Use jobs as stepping stones to where you want to be and where you'll be most happy. |

I've been unemployed for almost six months now......and I was once unemployed for almost a year. Get used to it, it might be in your future, too.
When you do finally land a job, SAVE SOME MONEY!! Don't be stupid and spend all of it on stupid stuff like video games and junk you don't need (how many cars can one person drive at one time - and do you **really** need a five-bedroom house for only two people?); Unemployment Insurance doesn't pay all the bills. ANYONE can lose a job at any time, often with no warning.....it's called "downsizing the corporation".
I've been unemployed at least five times in the past ten years....and that's inlcuding the "temp jobs" I've lost due to no longer being needed (you're not employed unless you're actually working - that's how Temp Agencies operate). If all you can find is a "grunt" job (manual labor), take it -- it may be all there is to have. |

I have suffered the same for a period of over 2 years All I can suggest is to spread your resume over as many job sites as possible don't forget the International sites such as devnetjobs.net and the UN sites. I know it is difficult but keep up the courage and fight! |

i worked for a staffing agency for several years. i saw many many people come through with anywhere from an associates degree to a masters who couldn't find work.
despite what is drilled into our heads from elementary school on, getting a college degree is NOT what it's cracked up to be.
it's not what you know, it's WHO you know, that gets people jobs. |

I was out of work for 6 months when I was let go of my last job. The average is around 5 to 6 months with thorough job hunting. I'm now working at a great job for much more money at the same Job title. I'm a Lead Computer Operator. Don't stop looking and you will find what you are looking for. It takes a lot of time and perseverance...Trust me. |
