I suspect you're being black balled by your previous employer. I'm sure the legal community is a small one and your previous employer has probably put the word out not to hire you.

If that's the case, sign on with a temp agency and work as many hours as you can. While working in various offices, potential employers will be able to see the quality of your work and you'll be hired by one of them.

Don't put the name of your last employer , since you left on bad terms.
If when anyone asks just say it was confidential.
Unless you sued for harrassment and received a settlement, then don't put that employer down at all.

PERHAPS IT IS TIME TO CONSIDER UPDATING YOUR SKILLS, SOMEONE WHO IS LEARNING IS FAR MORE LIKELY TO BE CONSIDERED THAN SITTING ON YOUR BACKSIDE, SINCE YOUR LAST JOB, AND DO YOU DO VOLUNTARY WORK ?, ALWAYS A PLUS POINT FOR SOMEONE (TRY THE CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU IF YOU HAVE TIME TO SPARE, THEY ALWAYS ARE OVERWORKED AND NEED HELP, YOU CAN START TO RETRAIN FOR SOME OF THEIR WORK IMMEDIATELY, ALL THIS WILL IMPROVE YOUR RESUME, AND SELL YOU TO SOMEONE AS AN ACTIVE PERSON, NOT JUST SOMEONE WHO IS A STAY AT HOME STATISTIC, AND YOU MAY JUST MAY MAKE CONTACTS THAT LEAD TO A JOB, THIS IS KNOWN AS NETWORKING, AND HOW MUCH HAVE YOU DONE LATELY, ? TRY LOCAL FREE ADVICE CENTRES FOR THE LAW, AND TO HELP OTHERS, THESE ARE PACKED WITH PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE ONES WHO NEED HELP, EVEN FOR JUST STAFF ABSENCE, PREGNANCY ETC, AS TO HARASSMENT, JUST HOW DO DESCRIBE IT, ON YOUR RESUME ?
