Help with receiving my check from my employer? ?

I put in my two weeks notice, which was supposed to end two business days from now. Today I walked into work and they said that they did not need me to come in again. Today Im supposed to get paid, so I asked for my check, and they said they would mail it.

If I had my two weeks notice notarized, are they allowed to let me go early? And if Im normally supposed to get my check today, and I come in and they refuse to give it me, are they allowed to do that by law? And what about my next check two weeks from now?

(Im a medical asst at a OB-GYN, florida)

Here is one of the biggest problems you face. Florida is one of the states with the WEAKEST laws with regard to final pay. There is no state law that dictates by when an employer must give you your final check; however, the normal rule of thumb is you must be paid by your next pay period in a majority of states. I recommend if you do not receive your final check by the next scheduled pay period immediately contact the Department of Labor Wage & Hour Department at 1-866-4US-Wage. They will immediately intervene on your behalf to get your money.

They would have both checks combined in to one, and will send it out.

Yes, they can let you go early, and yes they have the right to mail your check rather than give it to you in person.

they could have let you go the day you gave notice and NO, they do not have to pay you for the days you don;t work - you'll get your paychecks when they are processed along with the other employees normal payroll checks
