We only get given a half hour break at 5pm. We work a total of 8 hours. How much break am I legally entitled to?

You don't say what state you're from so its hard to answer since each state law is different. No federal law governs breaks. Only 19 states require that you get some kind of lunch break. In the remainder of the 31 states, employers are not required to give you any lunch break, regardless of the length of your shift...unless you're a minor of course. This site gives you the exact state laws. BTW, ony 5 states require some sort of unpaid or paid 10 minute "coffee break." http://www.ehso.com/ehsodol.php?URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dol.gov/esa/programs/whd/state/meal.htm
