Honesty at my job interview?
Find answers to your legal question.

Honesty at my job interview?

I have a petty shoplifting record from 3 years ago, and i have an interview for a check-cashing place so should I be honest about my record? or should i keep my mouth shut because they haven't completed my background check yet..help what should i do!!! :( any tips ?

Find out if they are going to be checking your record for sure. Ask around in ANY way that you can to find out this information. IF they are, be honest! If not, just don't mention it. IMO, it is likely you will NOT get hired if you are honest, unfortunately. :( It looks worse if you get caught lying, though and I'm sure they will tell you that if you have been truthful, you would have been hired.

Depends on your age. Were you a minor 3 years ago and not now? If you were an adult it may show up.

You should definitley be honest in you job interview. If you aren't you can be fired or at the worst part of the spectrum, face a fine for lying on your application.

If they ask, tell them - if you don't get the job, you wouldn't have gotten it anyway after the background check.

Be honest. if you don't mention it and they discover it during their background check, your application will end up in the trash.

If you're asked and/ or its a question on the application, then say. You probably will be asked though, because they most likely have to bond their cashiers for insurance purposes--which means somewhere down the line, a background check will take place.

Be Honest!!! also go to a local attorney and see if they can help you remove it from your record. It might cost around 300 or they might tell you what you need to do to do it your self for the cost of an hour of their time.

I would be honest because it should come up in the background check. But if you already went on the interview and won't see them anymore, it may look strange to say something now and not during the interview. If you haven't interviewed yet, tell them. Especially if you did it when you were younger; tell them how much you regret your poor decision.
