How bad is it to not list your last employer that you worked for on your resume?

Just as long as you can explain the gap in unemployment, and hope no one at your potential new place of employment knows anyone where you "did not last work"....

If you don't list your last employer then how will you answer to why you have been out of work since your last employment? I would never leave the most recent off

I've done it and it was never questioned.

There's no law against it. But your prospective employer may want you to account for the unexplained time. Be prepared.

There are ways around it but you must be able to explain the gap if questioned. For instance I worked at a place for two months however prior to working for the company, I worked a contract assignment so I just simply said their wasn't assignment after it ended therefore I didn't have to include it on my resume' about the job I worked for 2 months.

Company's will ask you why the gap so make sure that you have it already worked out as to what you will say. If you don't want to include the last job because you fear they will give you a negative reference, just remember they can only verify length of employment and if in writing salary. They should never disclose why they let you go unless they want to be sued for potential loss of wages.
