I'll be graduating in May, I started looking for jobs after I finished all the paralegal law classes, and every time the say experience required.
I really want to start working with a law firm. I don't care how small I just want to get the experience.
what should I do to get a job with one ?

Apply for entry level positions that you are qualified for (file clerk, legal secretary, receptionist). Build up your law office experience. That's where most have to start...the bottom (I had to). |

I am working on my paralegal studies and I started out working at the District Attorney's Office. I had no experience in legal. I started out doing data entry and moved to Traffic. Now I work for a private law firm and will stay here. Check your local court house too. |

You need to apply for entry-level jobs, like a file clerk. Very few firms will hire without law firm experience. I am in a paralegal program now, and I am currently looking for entry-level jobs. The schools seem to want to keep this a secret, but you have to have 2 years of experience, at least, for many places. There are paralegals in my class who want the degree to move on to other jobs, and they all had to work their way up. My professor has hinted at it, but she has not really came out and said we need experience. It is a shame, because I have yet to see a job ad that says they will train. I have a BA and it still does not matter-experience does. Only one of the paralegals in my class has a degree of any kind. But getting the degree is still important, because more employers are asking for it.
Start looking everywhere, and try some temp agencies. Does your school have an internship? We have to do one for a full semester, and sometimes they will hire you after you have completed the internship (mine will come at the very end of the program). |
