How can i change my employment hours?

im on 30 hours a week on days and times that doesnt suit me, how can i change this. do i need to give in writing to my employer. how many weeks notice do i give?

You can go and have a talk with your boss to see if what you want is even possible. If you are a great employee they might be willing to adjust things, if you are an average employee they might be willing to let you go.
People in this country need to wake up to facts really quickly, our jobs have been eliminated, the economy is TANKING and jobs are harder to find. There is more competition for many less jobs. Employees (or job seekers) who do not figure this out pretty quickly and going to be in a world of hurt soon. The unprecedented period of more jobs than people to fill them is coming to an end and soon, only the best of the best will be finding anything.
Having said that, if your job isn't working for you, and your employer won't change his business to accommodate you, start looking for a new job, NOW. |

first, ask your employer if you can change your schedule. if not, go find another job with hours that suit you. your employer is under no obligation to adjust their schedule to suit you.
when you do leave to change jobs, a 2 week notice is standard practice (in writing of course, no need to explain the details of why you're leaving, simply that you've accepted another position & will be leaving your current employer). |

You go talk to your boss and ask if you can change your hours. Unless you have a contract that states that you decide what your hours will be it is up to your boss when you need to be there. Just dropping off a note unilaterally stating what your new hours are is asking for trouble. |
