Please check out the above poster's idea.

Another idea:
Call your local (usually county) bar association. Tell them the main ideas of your matter (but don't tell them all the little details - save the details for your attorney). Ask them for the names of possible lawyers that could help you. Also ask them for the number for >>>LegalAid<<<.

When you call the law office(s), ask to speak to the attorney. Do NOT tell all your little details to the Secretary that first answers the phone - save your details for your new attorney. When you get your potential new lawyer on the phone, ask #1 first thing:
- how much is his/her fee?
- do they take payments?
- do they have an initial free first conference?
- can they help you? and/or can they refer you to someone that can help you?

I personally know that the military lawyers aren't much help - I wouldn't waste any more time with them, IF possible.

Good luck.

I believe the USMC has lawyers who can help active duty Marines with issues like this, don't they?

You should definitely check.
