it used to be that the workplace has to be a minimum of 63F

or the workforce were sent home

this would usually only happen if the heating system had failed

You could check out Health and Safety at work

legislation for more information

The temperature in workrooms should provide reasonable comfort without the need for special clothing. Where such a temperature is impractical because of hot or cold processes, all reasonable steps should be taken to achieve a temperature which is as close as possible to comfortable. 'Workroom' means a room where people normally work for more than short periods.

The temperature in workrooms should normally be at least 16 degrees Celsius unless much of the work involves severe physical effort in which case the temperature should be at least 13 degrees Celsius. These temperatures may not, however, ensure reasonable comfort, depending on other factors such as air movement and relative humidity.’

HSE website says that there should be a minimum working temperature of 16 degrees centigrade within one hour of starting work. depends on what you do for a living though. There is no upper limit though

When I worked as a packer in a meat factory in London, it was minus 7. We got 15 minutes in the hour, but you paid for the coffee machine.

It was easier working straight through 4 hours. More work gets done cos slow down and you freeze, but 15 minutes isn't enough to recover.

No contractual obligation and you do what the boss says or go work elsewhere.

nope

If its under a certain temperature at work, you have to be sent home, as its too cold to work, and if its too hot its the same, im not sure about the temperature though lol
