i have a phone interview tomorrow and i am terrible at interviews. it is for a case management position at a law firm. My aunt who works there told me they would ask me my strengths, weaknesses, and how I would handle a certain situation. i am really struggling with my weaknesses. i know its ridiculous to say my weakness is something like perfectionism and my aunt said its best to just be pretty honest but i dont wanna look bad. my strengths are oganization, multi tasking, and efficiency. i am very goal oriented and finish thngs faster than my co workers. i am task oriented BUT def not a people person. being a case manager already i know that i am not going to need intense people skills for this position but i cant just say i hate people and love paperwork.also i have found that i dont work well in team (usually) because people just dont do things fast enough and are scattered brained...i can usually do better by myself. i cant say that either. i though about saying i dont like being slowed down by others maybe...and does anyone know what kind of situation they will ask me? any suggestions for the interview tomorrow?

The beast way to answer the weakness question is to actually BE honest about it. HOWEVER, in addition to merely pointing it out, also convey what you have done/are currently doing to remedy the problem. It may sound something like this: "Although nothing stands out at present I can definitely tell you what used to be a huge problem. One of my weaknesses used to be time management. However, a few years ago a colleague taught me some time-management techniques that really helped me out. For instance, now I always carry this planner around and it helps me organize my life more effectively. In addition, the creation of lists and setting tentative deadlines have helped me tremendously as well. What used to be a weakness has now actually turned into somewhat of a strong-point." This not only shows your potential employer that you are introspective and self-aware but also resolute and committed to resolving problems. |
