How do I find a job that I am passionate about and still make enough money to pay my enormous debt?

I have a law degree and an ok-paying job at a small firm. I hate it! The work is very boring and bland. I have no passion for it. I would like to find a new job in my old field (education) or another field. How can I find a relatively high-paying job I am passionate about?

Great question! It seems to be an issue that many law schools are trying to address. There's no magical formula for finding the right job because it varies with each person. Take an inventory of each week. Find what interests you on TV or what you read. From there go after it with all your resources. That's the best I can do for now. |

Rick, great question.
The grass is always greener on the other side.
I am a subsitute teacher and contemplating either being a full-time teacher or going to law school. Do I want the huge amount of debt of being a lawyer making decent $$$(something im not passionate about) or spending a few 100 dollars to get certified as a teacher making low pay(something Im passionate about.) Even though teaching is low paying----it is rewarding.
So which is it? Money or passion? I hate to break the news to you...but some of the highest paying careers are the least psychologically rewarding.
Its rare to find a career your passionate about and making decent money at the same time.
If you want to stay poor work your passion. If you want to be rich then forget passion. Only a select lucky few find a career they are passionate about and make great money.
Hope this helps. |

There is an old saying I've heard which answers your question: Find something you love doing, then find a way to make money doing it. If you're passionate about education you can certainly make a decent living in that area. Just be reaslistic about the full scope of what you're looking for. You'll typically make more money working for a private school than for a public, and more at a college than at an elementary school.
The real question you have to ask is "What are you passionate about?" That's not a question that can be answered by strangers on a forum. If you were extremely passionate about your last field you would never have left. There was obviously something that caused you to leave and pursue your law degree. Once you discover your true passion you'll find ways to make it profitable and may discover that there are very few limits to the success (financially, professionally, and personally) that you can experience. |
