How do I get unemployment benefits if my employer didn't put money into it in the state of IL?

I worked for my employer for nearly two years. I was let go and went the very next day to apply for benefits until I found a new job position. I went to the unemployment office and it turns out that my employer didn't put any money into unemployment benefits. I worked full time for the same employer.

How do I go about getting the money that I deserve? I contacted my previous employer and they have yet to respond.

I have now been unemployed for 4 weeks and could really use that money.

My previous employer was required to add money to the unemployment benefits.

You need to better understand State of IL statutes on employer funding of unemployment benefits. Most state statutes have a mimimum threshold in size (number of employees, gross annual revenue, and in some even the type and location of the business). In short, you want to know if your former employer was not required to participate in the States Unemployment Insurance program. If the were not required to do so, there really isn't much you can do. However, if by statute they were required to then call up your former employer and let them know you are calling the State of IL Attorney General's office and are they sure they don't want to resolve the mis-understanding.

Are you based in uk or usa? in the uk you would certainly be able to claim. If you were made redundant then you are entitled to redundancy...only uk advice I'm afraid.
