How do get a paralegal job without experience? All them jobs require experience innit?

You will need at least a two year degree in paralegal or legal assistant studies. In larger markets a 4 year degree is required. Many paralegal programs require an internship. That will help you get the experience you need. But, be prepared to do that internship for free. Few firms pay an intern. You can also volunteer at legal aid, start with a legal secretary job and move up, but many firms still want that degree before you can become a paralegal. Certification from NALA requires a recommendation from an attorney and work experience. You must have consumate verbal and written skills, be able to read for clarity and detail, perform research and legal writing, be estute enough to learn about many things unrelated to you field like medicine, construction, product safety, etc. You must be able to analyze, shephardize law, apply case law to your client's situation. Depending on the law firm, accounting background is important. Also a modern paralegal must be very tech savvy, be used to wrkoing long hours and follow a strict ethical code. It is a wonderful field to work in, but you have to apply yourself and you have to be organized, efficient, punctual, detail oriented and do your own typing.

All them jobs require a grasp of the English language too, innit?

Well, you need to start small. I suggest looking for a job with a bigger law firm as a legal secretary/receptionist or a records/file clerk. That way, you'll be working in a law firm, you'll gauge experience that way, and maybe in a year they will promote you to a 'higher' position. If not, work there for 2 years and start looking for a new job & you'll have the experience required. Good luck...

A paralegal is a professional position requiring formal legal education and most often certification. Lots of law firms and corporations with hire you with the certification and no work experience, but you won't get hired without the education.

Try going door to door to the legal firms offering to do small jobs for a fee. One of them will be so impressed with your sense of enterprise and professionalism that they might hire you.

Think outside the box.
