How do you answer 'Why did you leave your previous job if you were terminated' on a job application?

Lie. 90% of employers don't do crap for background checking. I've never had a reference called nor has a former employer ever said they got a call about me. Employers and recruiters will adamantly deny this, but ask around, hardly anyone gets their background checked ESPECIALLY if you apply at a small or medium-sized business and not some huge mega corp (where they have the budget to have a bunch of HR morons make phone calls all day, or worse, outsource it).

"Management issues" "Company sacked lots of people" would be good. Something like "I didn't like my boss" isn't good.

I'm assuming you meant "if you were not terminated"

I just put I needed more hours.

And if you mean that you were fired and don't know what to put, just put down "personal issues",
If they ask about it during the job interviw, tell the truth though.

absolute confusion
I hate answering questions on an application, if most everyone is an "at will" employee in today's workplace, meaning you can quit or be fired for no reason, than why is it that we need to explain why we left! Ok now that I've complained, I'd like to say that the best advice I can offer is to put down that you left for personal reasons. I also found this webpage that you might find interesting, I hope this helps some. Good Luck!

Tell the truth and have a straight forward answer as to what you learned from the experience and what you do differently now and will in the future to prevent the same thing from happening again. People can normally deal better with the truth and are more willing to give someone a second chance. Lie and get caught, you will have no chance.

be honest, but not overly so...don't give alot of detail, because it will look like you are trying to make excuses, so if you were fired due to lost time, for instance, put "too much missed time due to medical reasons" or "due to family issues" because they can (and probably will) check...
