Depending on where you live is going to play a large role in your success. I live in CA. and we cannot even "advertise" as Ind. Par. we are Legal Document Assistants. It is not recommended to take on the task of Ind. Contracting with any less than 5+yrs. exp.
To answer your question you need to go to an ABA approved school depending on the school it could take 9mo-2yrs.
Next you must get a $25,000 bond your credit is the deciding factor, then you must register in your county I paid $300, if you have a business name you must file & pay the county as well as a local periodical to publish the announcement for 3wks., a business liscence from the city, and E&O insurance I have $250, 000. |

Many colleges now offer this certification.
Call your local college or go online and see if they offer it.
It is becoming - slowly - a more popular field now.
The attorneys pay the paralegal $15-$20/hr and then turn around and charge the client $200+ attorneys fees for the work the paralegal does.
What a deal for the attorney!!
