To become a lawyer you need to first get a four year degree, and then you need to go to law school, another three years. Once you have graduated from law school with a Juris Doctorate, you are a lawyer. From there, you need to pass the state bar exam for the state in which you want to practice. |

How long you have to train to be a lawyer varies from one country to another.
In most cases, you first spend 4 years at a University and obtain the first degree. Thereafter, you go to a Law School for another 2 years and pass the exams.
You thereafter work at a law firm for at least 2 years under the guidance of a Senior Advocate. Then, you can practice on your own.
As a lawyer, you should be able to convince a court that a thief is not a thief. Why in the first place, should the owner put his property in an unsecured place? You should be able to tell so much lies and prove that you are talking on points of law and substantiate your lies with legal references and quotes (brain work). If all your plea fails, then, you plea leniency - my client is a first offender.
Regarding subjects, you must be good in English, mathematics, political and criminal law. |

well, in australia. you must complete and pass a UAI mark (very difficult) then you must study in university for 6 years, only then if you graduate you could become a lawyer. |

3year llb law degree. One year legal practice course. Two year training contract, during which time you must also do the legal skills course, for UK lawyers. Politics is a good introduction to it and also read about Contract, European law, Criminal law, family law will help |

Most law schools are four years. But while you are waiting to enter law school study as much law and accounting as you can while still in secondary. You may evn want to check out some law firms for para-legal jobs, or courts for intern jobs as clerk. If you have good typing skills there may even be something available on-line for legal transcriptionist. All of these avenues will allow you an insight in to the legal profession. |

There are various ways to become a solicitor.
The traditional route is to do a 3 year LLB degree. A 1 year Legal Practise Course (LPC) and then a 2 year training contract within a firm.
If you do not do a LLB degree then you will need to do a 1 year CPE course after your degree before doing the LPC and then the 2 year training contract.
Another route is to become a legal executive. After working as a legal exec you can do the LPC and then you don't have to do the 2 year training contract to qualify as a solicitor. You would need to find a firm willing to give you the proper training needed though.
There is no finding available for the LPC - you have to pay yourself unless you find a law firm willing to fund you. When I did mine in 1999 it cost around £4,000.
The most difficult part is the training contract. These are highly sought after and very difficult to get. You will also be working long hours for national minimum wage during this time and you get all the nasty jobs no-one else wants to do. Try to get as much work experience in law firms as you can - they all do summer placements and you normally need to apply to the major firms at least a year in advance. To get a training contract in a major law firm is difficult - they also recruit for these at least 2/3 years in advance so apply for one near the end of your degree and certainly before starting the LPC.
I would always choose law subjects or law related ones like business and politics. Most employers look for someone who is a member of sports teams and who has lots of outside interests. |

From what I've heard law school is 2 years and you need to read a 1,000 page book. |
