Every crime you are convicted of will be in your criminal record for your entire life. Depending on company policies and state laws a background check may go anywhere from 5 to 50 years (The average is 7 to 10). You could look at expungement as an option which would prevent most employers from seeing your criminal record. You would need the assistance of an attorney and there is no guarantee, but it would be worth looking into. Even if sucessful, most government agencies get to see expunged and sealed records. Additionally, many businesses who provide a service in which the crime you were convicted of could directly relate to the business can see these records also (An example is that most gaming businesses can see sealed records)

If you have a criminal conviction your best bet is to be prepared to be asked about it at an interview. Inform them about your past mistake then quickly move into what you're doing now to build your future and prevent falling into the lifestyle that led you to commit a crime. Education and volunteer work can go a long way in this effort.

this is something called expugement....when you get into this program..they remove you criminal back.. in 3 months...talk to your lawer about it...
