First year I made $15. an hour for a law firm that billed me out at $150 an hour. Second year worked as a contract attorney and was paid $30 an hour. Law is not the pot of gold that the TV portrays it UNLESS you have connections, you graduate top of your class at a top tier school and you get picked up at a top firm and are required to put in 18 hour days/7days a week. |

A first year lawyer in a top tier NYC firm makes 160,000 plus bonus. Bonuses last year were about 40,000. Check the website www.infirmation.com. There are many issues that you don't describe that were previously pointed out. Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz pays substantially more in bonus but you'll live there.
California firms like Latham & Watkins; Wilson Sonsoni are fairly competitive. In top Firms in Vegas & Florida you may make less but will pay less in taxes so it should even out in the long run.
Check infirmation.com. Associates will post a lot of BS there but the salary numbers are usually good. There are several boards for the different regional areas. You'll be looking for the "Greedy Associates" boards.

My grandson earned about 60 thou. his first year. In his 3rd year he is earning twice that at a different law firm. But, those guys put in a lot of "billable hours", including weekends. |

How hard do you plan to work. Isn't your work sort of based on a form of consignment??? I mean the more hours and guts you give your firm the more they recognize you. |
