I have been asked to book 23 of my 25 holiday days for next year (January-December) by the end of next week. I think it is ridiculous having to plan this far ahead. I can understand having to give a couple of weeks notice but up to 15 months? Is this legal?

If you are looking to book 23 consecutive days it might be within your company's rights.
As with many things it depends on your contract of employment which you both signed when you joined the company.
My company for instance state that in our contract that any holiday 14 days or over need to be booked one month ahead, you really should read your contract before doing anything else. |

UK? What does it say in your employment contract? Your notice period must be at least twice as long as the holiday. You may need specialist employment advice on this. See adviceguide below, for more information. |

A lot depends on the company, what it does, how many are employed, who does your job while you are away etc. You may find that they want to know so they can organise their year in advance. So try asking why they want you to book your days holiday well in advance. I would expect an answer similar to what I have said. And yes it is legal as they have a company to run. They can even cancel your holiday once you have booked it if you being away from work would seriously affect the running of the company. |
