How should I react to harassment at work?

I have one coworker that has been treating me badly. I am a photo lab tech and she was working in customer service. I am fully trained as a customer service representative. She called in and said she was running late. She showed up an hour and a half late (6 PM). I had been there since 2:15, so I told my front end manager that I would take my lunch as soon as she came in the door. When she clocked in, instead of reporting to the desk, she went to starbucks (in the same store) and talked to her friends. When my manager went up to her and told her I was going to take my lunch and she needed to watch the front, she stated that I was not supposed to be their. (I switched shifts with the morning shift.) My manager told me to go up to her and tell her I was going to lunch. In order to avoid confrontation, I told her I wouldn't. My manager made me do it. After my lunch was over (at 6:38), I was asked to cover another person's lunch. So I was back there until about 7:20. At 8:10 she informed me that she was going to take her 15 minute break. So I said, "I'll see you at 8:25." She told me that no one told her when she comes back from her breaks, not even Gary (store manager). She stayed on her break at starbucks until 8:49. That's 24 minutes too long. When she got back it was time for my break. So I went to get a cup of coffee as I do every night I close. She followed me and left the front end unattended. When I finished my break, I finished cleaning and went to clock out. I noticed I still had my keys and walkie on me. So, instead of turning them in, I was going to give them to her. She needed the keys for her department anyway. I walked up to her and told her that the keys were for her. She told me she didn't need them and I needed to put them up. I sat them down and let her know I was off the clock and I would not put them back up. She yelled on the walkies, "Kevin, come to guest services." Kevin was our store supervisor at the time. I gave in and turned in the keys. I then went to my front end manager to tell her what happened. She walked around the corner yelling things like "I'm not your dog" and "your not my mama." That was about the time the store supervisor walked up. He asked me what went on and I told him. He went to go talk to her and my front end manager told me to just go ahead and leave. I left, and therefore I don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. Their is one problem in this case, I'm white and she is black. If you are not a southerner, you won't understand. I can be accused of racism and that will lead to me getting fired. I am going to talk to the HR and store manager but that hasn't helped before with problems with her. Hopefully someone will help me. Any advice from someone who has been in a similar situation?

Colour has nothing to do with this, dont go there as it will only bite you on the A*rse. This about an employee not doing the job expected of them and doesnt care and there are a few people out there who know the system and will use any means including the race issue to deter people from doing anything Lay a formal (written complaint) with your manager including a sequence of events, ie at 0800 x happened, 0900 Y happened etc, stick to the facts, please dont get emotive
Give management a set time. ie 7 days to resolve the matter
If they dont over here we would go to our union or lawyer to begin a personal grievance claim
This person is a arrogant lazy git who is ripping the company off, If she can get away with it suggests something curly going on with management

I don't believe you have anything to worry about regarding your job. It is obvious based on what you wrote they know who the problem child is and it is HER not YOU. You didn't say anything that would lead even a 4 year old to believe rascism is involved. She has an attitude problem and hopefully management isn't concerned with her race and just fires her. They have more than ample grounds to do so, as well as, deny her unemployment claim if she files.

You should report that your your boss. If your boss doesn't do anything, report it to the Police.

WOW...After reading all that, I don't like you either!!

I think you both should quit you job and go back to grammar school where childish behavior is expected. You are both suppose to be adults, but because of your childish behavior, your managers are having the deal with petty bickering.

Pull that stick out of you butt. Stop watching the clock minute by minute. Stop bring race into the situation (what in hell did that have to do with anything? ). And I am from Maine, so I don't know what you are talking about??? How ridiculous is that??? Stop telling us LONG stories that are of course biased in your favor. There are two sides to every story. That doesn't mean you are wrong, but it seems you are obsessed. You are hired to be there certain hours and you get breaks. If your co-worker is coming in late and taking long breaks, you might point it out to your manager, then drop it. If it interferes with your breaks, let the boss know so he can speak to her. Be succinct! Turn in your radio and keys, and you eliminate that problem.

Grow up. Get over the childish behavior and do your job. Then the coworker will stand out all by herself. I am a supervisor and I can deal with this type of issue best when there is one offender and the other is an adult.
