Wow, tough call. Take a chance to improve yourself and your living situation by taking a higher paying job and getting off the gravy train or continue to milk the system for everything you can get and avoid personal responsibility. I would hope you'd have enough pride in yourself that you would choose to improve yourself and your living situation by taking the job that would afford you the chance to become self sufficient instead of asking how to have your cake and a slice of everyone else's too. |

Turn down the job or decide to do without the benefits. Sadly, you cannot always 'have it all'. |

Go to work and forget the benefits.
You'll have more money in your pocket and the work is good for your health and self esteem. |

Take the higher paying job.
It saddens me when things like this come up. I've had a full time job since 2000, been laid off and out of work a few times and I've almost NEVER taken money from the state or federal governments. I saved money and used that savings to push myself through. True, it was expensive, but at the time I didn't feel that I needed the extra help that the govt was willing to give. I've never had a handout when it's come to fuel or medical costs and I don't think if you're working at all that you should be given any kind of assistance when it comes to fuel!!!! |

Wow. That is really all I can say. It is people like you that helped to get us in the situation we are in today. People that keep riding the system for all it is worth are killing this country, bankrupting it morally and financially and you are here today asking for help to not only make more money but beat the system and keep the government money flowing. Shameful. If more people would stand up and take care of themselves there would be more than enough to go around to those that actually need the help. Take the job and stop dipping into my pockets. |

If you can work why do you need benefits from the govt?????
We ALL have problems and you are making other struggling Americans pay for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
You are a human MONSTER!
Children are starving, old people are freezing in their homes and you just killed them! |

Only you have the numbers, but the way government assistance works, it's usually stacked so that it's better to get a higher-paying job than qualify for the benefits. Plus, a higher-paying job is a road to advancement, a future. If the new job is stable, and has similar hours, I'd take it. I wouldn't want to stay on the dole forever.
But only you can run the numbers to see if it would work. |

Is there a way for you to go on disability? That would be a good option. Maybe you could ask a friend to run over both of your legs in your car. Then the whole thing would be legitimate. |

I Can Answer That
|
in light of your newly provided information I will stand by my answer.
Way the Pro's and Con's. Is the extra money more than you receive for the benefits? if it is take the job.
If the money is less then tell whomever is offering the job that you will be taking a pay cut and that you would like more money or the deal is not acceptable.
hopefully they will offer you more.
If they do not offer you more then the deal really isn't better then what you have now. |

You need to learn to maintain yourself. A job isn't enough? Get another.
You can always take the "other" alternative... |

u r keeping yourself down if you don't take the job. Yes, u might struggle...at first..... but imagine the regret of turning down the job. I might be making it a little too much of a pride thing but you have to take a leap of faith

Don't take the job. But if its more money then you might not need the benefits. Or you could try to negotiate with the new employer for money for fuel and benefits. But don't cheat the system, there are people not working at all that need it more than you do. |

well if you are getting a job that makes more money why are you still trying to get benefits? |

you need to be more specific. when you say 'medical needs', what are these? do you mean normal prescriptions that everyone who works have to pay for? or what?
if you're a normal human being, take the job and earn your own money. the rest of us have to pay for our own fuel - why are you any different?? |

Well, if you get this better job, wouldn't that mean you don't need the assistance any longer. Perhaps it is best to take the better job, and leave the assistance for those who need it more.
Turning down the job would mean turning down your future. |

It's your decision - either take the job and try to support yourself or keep on getting benefits. |

Work like everyone else. At least like those of us who have jobs anyway. |

In times such as these with all the unemployment, I would go with the better job. There is nothing guaranteeing that the government is going to be able to help everybody that is out of work, or does not make enough to cover their expenses. Also, income brackets to qualify for welfare services can change at any point, meaning that you could qualify today and not tomorrow. Besides, the more money you make, the more is taken out in taxes, and the more taxes taken out, the better the refund you could get next year. With the new tax law, if you pay out at least 7.5% of your income to medical expenses, then you can also use that as a deduction on your taxes, meaning another increase on your tax refund. |
