How would you resign from your current position if you found a another job and you have to start immediately.?

That's career suicide! It means you can't give notice so you won't likely get a good recommendation from that employer in the future. The first thing I would do is check with the new employer to see if there was any way they could give me time to give my present employer at least ONE week's notice (two is standard). Then if not - and I would sure think twice about going to work for someone who would think nothing of me leaving my current employer in dire straights - I would explain to my current employer that even though I cannot give appropriate notice b/c the position starts immediately, I will be happy to come in a couple of weekends if he'd like so that the workload stays caught up until he can find a replacement. That way you haven't burned a bridge behind you and if the new job doesn't work out b/4 you are replaced at your old job, your boss might just consider re-hiring you since you were conscientious enough to try to make the transition smoother by working a couple of weekends.

You don't, not if you want to keep the good will of your current employer. However, if you have a good relationship with your boss, you could inform him of your dilemma and he might release you sooner so that you could accept this opportunity of a lifetime. Remember that your new boss will know that you don't give proper notice if you don't want to if you find a 'better' job. That may not be the impression you want to give a new employer.

If you need to start you new job immediately I suggest you offer your current employer to work part time (perhaps saturdays and a couple of evening a week) to cover the gap for the next month or so

Be upfront, open and honest.

I would let your boss know that a wonderful opportunity has come up that will make an impact in my future and explain to them the position, etc... I have had to do this once and it actually went a lot better than i had expected it too. Good luck to you!

Tell your boss that you have found employment elsewhere, and wanted to give him/her notice, but are needed immediately.

Warning - do NOT use that employer as a reference - ever.

Any job that requires you to start immediately, without giving proper notice to your current employer is, in my opinion, no where you are going to want to work.
