If it's not... what should I do to start?

It's never too late to start learning anything. I had lots of classmates in law school who were in their 50s.
To become a lawyer in the US, generally you need to get a bachelor's degree (any field will do) and then go to law school. To get into a top law school you need pretty much perfect grades in college. But there are good law schools that aren't so rigid. Law school can be another 2-3 years, depending on the course load you take in each term. Then you have to pass the bar exam, which in some states is much more difficult than anything you do in law school. (Only 28% passed the one I took and passed.)
In some states you can actually study for the bar exam on your own, with a lawyer supervising. You do not have to have college to do that. You still have to pass the bar exam.
So you aren't even close to beginning the study of law. |

You must have a bachelors degree before you can apply for law school. Usually a bachelors degree in political science will get you accepted into law school.
So don't even worry about it until you start college and then prepare to apply for law school after your complete your 4 yr. college program. |

Definitely not! In fact, you'll be ahead of most people in college and those who are just going into law. I know that at 22 years old, I had no clue of what going into law really meant, but indulge me for a moment as I give you a crash course.
Tuition is only getting higher for lawyer training that could very well end up in vain. Wages and income have stagnated. In other words, a JD is not that great of a return on investment as it once was. People in the law will tell you that it's a great career, but I don't believe they're being entirely honest. They just don't want to burst your bubble. Many new law graduates end up with a large debt and no real job prospects. We see 44,000 graduates each year, but there are only about 25-30k actual lawyer jobs available. Those unemployed are either trying to make it as a solo attorney (no experience and training because law schools don't provide that) or working for free for someone else. It just doesn't seem right for someone to be in that position after seven years of higher education. |

Too late at 16? My father entered law school with 8 children and a full time job as a police officer. At that time he was 37. He graduated the year I was born, I was the 12th child and he was 43. God Bless my mother for doing what she did to support him! It is never too late for your dream. If you give up on your dream, your giving up on your life. GO FOR IT! |
