I'm hyperventilating over this unemployment hearing?
|
In three days I have a hearing over the phone to appeal the denial of my benefits. I need money very badly, as I just separated from a deadbeat spouse, am living off of friends' and family's handouts with my 1 year-old son, and am scrambling to find a new job in this wretched economy.
I feel I have a pretty good case for myself, that I never engaged in misconduct. The thing is, I used to have a great relationship with my bosses, which has now obviously soured; and speaking with them and hearing accusations leveled against me sounds like gut-twisting torture.
I'm looking for reassurance more than an answer to a specific question; but if you can share your appeals hearing experiences with me, that would be great.

If you did nothing wrong, you can still collect. I was initially denied in April because my company claimed I was fired for misconduct - the unemployment office said there was no proof that it was unfounded. I have been collecting ever since. So don't stress out. If they have proof that you did something wrong, you are toast. You should get affidavits from witnesses or people at the job who can refute the allegations, and be ready to fax it when the claims examiner calls you on the phone.
I completely understand what you are going through - the suspense can kill you when your financial future is on the line. I had to wait over a month for my appeal phone interview and my heart almost beated out of my chest.
You will be fine, like I said I was fired for misconduct and I am collecting to this day. If they deny you, go to the welfare office (Board of Social Services) and apply. You cannot get denied if you have no job. Everything will be ok. There are food stamps, cash assistance, rent/mortgage help, etc.
Good luck :) |

I'm the mom now

Relax! If you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about. I went through this myself a few years ago, it was awful. The temp company I worked for lied to deny me my benefits! I too am a single mother, and my ex-husband and I had just split up and I had a baby!! I went to the hearing and those cowards didn't even show up, so I won by default. They are just trying to save money. They are trying to wear you down so you give up so they don't have to pay. It's the lousy economy, it makes people turn into greedy dogs. Go and fight for youself (and your kids!) and you will win. God Bless You! |
