i live in NJ. i'm 16 years old. i handed in my working papers but i still don't get my paycheck ever 2 weeks. also, i only get 6 an hour in the summer because my boss classifies it as "summer work" yet i work there all year round. my boss always pays me with her own checks. what is the min wage in NJ? isn't this illegal to be getting 6 an hour?

not all employers are covered by labor laws
there are a lot of exceptions without details such as the businesses gross revenues, number of employees, if it does interstate business, what the job is, how long you have been employed, if it is gainful employment or casual labor there is no way to answer but....................................
generally this would be illegal
NJ min wage is $7.15 hour
those under 18 are exempt from New Jersey minimum wage law except for those who work in:
food service, hotel/motel, mercantile and farm processing operations but would still be covered by the federal law(possibly) which is $6.55 hour. |

I'm not sure on the minimum wage, but some states have a lower minimum wage for minors. NJ might be one of them. |

i live in ontario and im only 12 but my sister got me a job at the company she works 4 so i get paid in company checks at min wage (8.75) |

i don't know the min. wage but i know that your boss is not supposed to pay you out of her own bank money is this a big company or a little one I'm 17 and i work as a helper for my dads drilling company and i get payed by the company not my bosses checks out of his own bank |

Depends if she is holding out taxes or not. The minimum wage is 7.15 right now, Or at least in MO, "summer" work isn't any diffrent than "fall" work, I know your young but you gotta be straight up with these people, Remember your not working for her your working for yourself. Everyday you Don't do this think about if you work a 10 hour shift that is 10 dollars you missed out on.. in 2 weeks this could be 70 etc. etc. Stand up or ask your parents they will have better advice than us scrubs ;) |

well, if you work there year-round, whatever your boss gave you was legal (including minimum wage). however, now that youre 16, you might remind her youre of legal age and need to be making 7.15/hr like every other schlub in the country. If you want to be play mean, tell her you're going to show the IRS how she paid you and the Better Business Bureau. If you like her, just remind her you deserve the minimum. If you're a good worker, tell her you need more to stay. Sounds like she's 1/2 shady. |
