I've been employed for more than three year in a part time job. They have decided to let me go as the company is under-performing and is not making enough money. Am I entitled to any severance pay?

If you are in the UK, you are entitled to redundancy pay. See the ACAS website. |

depends on what is in your contract but even though you are part time if it was in a permanent capacity which 3 years seems so then you should get some kind of severance pay. |

I'm hoping you work in the UK Arvind - blimey, you guys in the US have no rights at all do you?!!
It doesn't matter that you work part-time Arvind, in this instance you should be entitled to redundancy.
How much you should get will depend on (a) your age and (b) your contract of employment.
Your contract may offer better than the legal minimum redundancy pay. If not check http://www.tuc.org.uk/extras/redundancy.pdf for your entitlement. |

Severance pay is given at the discretion of the company and is not generally an employee right. You don't say where you are located; if you're in the UK or Europe, they use employment contracts in many countries and you may be entitled to something in that respect.
Otherwise, you can claim unemployment in the US, but you have no entitlement to severance - sorry. |

Severance pay depends on company policy. Most companies do NOT have a severance policy but may elect to pay severance on a large layoff and include part-time employees but it is not required under federal or state regulations |

No I'm afraid not.
Employing people part time is a good way of keeping costs down,ie no entitlement to paid hollidays,etc,etc |

No. You had no other benefits as a part time employee, right? So why would you expect severance pay when the company downsizes? |
