I accepted a higher paying job just this morning. I think my parents hates me. What should I do?

You did nothing wrong. In fact, what you did takes alot of guts. You should be proud of yourself. I am proud of you for not wanting to live in your dad's shadow. If you hadn't of taken this step you wouldn't have ever known if you could make it on your own. You will have much more self-respect for yourself now and your parents will get over it, what other choice do they have?

No, i dont think you did anything wrong. You are right in wanting to have your own life and establish your own name and reputation. I only think that the thing you could've done differently is talk to your parents first....not to ask their permission but to let them know what you will be doing as a sign of respect.

It's not too late though..talk to them and let them know how you feel. They should be proud of you.

You did the right thing.

But now you have to sell or convince to your parents that it is the right thing to do.

for example:
That you will learn a different approach on cases, new or different ways of doing things, fresh new ideas in general, etc.... and all those knowledge you can use in the future at your fathers firm (which they can benefit from it).

stop being terrified by what they think,they should be happy you're a lawyer and not a crack dealer!!!!!
Tell them to accept your choices no matter what.If they don't too bad.Remember it's your life,you decide what to do with it not them!

Anyways make sure you thank your dad for giving you an opportunity to work for him and tell him you might come back to work in his firm later in life.....

Of course you didn't do anything wrong. Parents have to let their children make their own decisions and as long as you're happy, you shouldn't feel guilty. Hopefully they will understand later.

I don't think that you done anything wrong, but you need to go to your parents and let them know how you feel. If that doesn't work thent you go on with your life.

In your parent's eyes, yes you have. You have betrayed them, for extra pay. Maybe you could explain to them that you just needed to broaden your horizons and see what it is like to work for someone else, who is not family and that sooner or later you will come back to the family business, if they will still have you.
