I accepted a job offer, relocated, and the employer could not pay my salary, what can I sue for?
|
I accepted a job offer in the middle of a project in Washington DC with a large consulting company. I relocated to Alabama and two weeks later the employer let the entire staff go because he could not pay our salaries. Myself and two friends lost jobs we could not go back to, moved, and lost everything. We damaged our reputations by moving in the middle of projects that will prevent us from getting any future work with our previous employers. What kind of damages can we seek?

As far as suing for damage to your reputations, no, you can't sue for that. You chose to leave other projects without completing them and that was your decision to make even if you had another job offer.
You may be able to try and recover moving costs, but it's kind of hard to sue someone who is not able to pay their bills. They could close the company all together and then you would be out legal costs as well. That may be about all you can try to recover from this and it will take you a good while to go through the legal steps to get there in small claims court. |

its better to sue and do something about it so everyone would know what happened and others would be cautious making this same wrong move..its just not right, i mean this employer would have known if he can pay everybody or not. impossible he/she doesn't know what budgetting is. Sue even if u don't get anything but dignity from embarrassment and bad work history at least you would have a real reason.. |
