I am a IT Pro and I've been told to place reasons for short tenure directly onto my resume. Is THAT 'legal'??

I have been in MIS/IT for over 20 years, but have suffered a lot of layoffs and downsizings. It has been suggested that I address these tenures directly on my resume (show cause). I believes this skates on discrimination. Am I correct in that assessment?

Here's the deal: These people are SUGGESTING that you do this. There's no rule that says you HAVE to, and no one can force you to do it legally. The only reason I can think of for such a suggestion is they may think your resume may end up in the trash after the first review if they see you've "jumped jobs" several times. May be good advice, then again, it may not be... |

'sarge927' has this question covered pretty well with the exception of the discrimination part.
where did that come from and how does discrimination play a role in your resume or job searches?
Am I correct in that assessment?
probably not but.........................
the question really can't be answered without some facts and background to go with the question.
the discrimination angle in relation to a resume is intriguing.
if discrimination is a real part of this question and what you want to know about then edit the question accordingly. |

its your resume. you can write anything you want.
just keep it honest.
imho... reasons for ending employment are better left for the interview process. |

While it is not illegal to do so--it's the way you word it. If they were indeed layoffs- I would clearly state "reduction in workforce" as it was out of your control. . .
It's all in the way it's laid out.
If you haven't already, try to google resume tips for layoffs.
good luck |

it is legal, they would like to know if you why you were fired from any of your positions - which they have a legal right to know. Like the previous person said, its all in how you word. You can say "company downsizing" or "work location closing." Also you should add that you had some type of work or educational activities in between jobs. For instance, if you ended one job June of year xxxx and started another job sept of year xxxx, add on your CV that you were doing home training in "blank" IT specialty. |

Well, first of all, that has nothing to do with discrimination, so no you aren't correct in that assessment. And you don't say who is telling you to do this. I wouldn't put it on your resume, but it isn't terrible if you did. Downsizings and layoffs have been common over recent years. |
