Having your records sealed will still not erase the conviction from your records. All it will do is disallow anyone from seeing the records of the court proceedings.
Whenever an HR manager does a background check they will still see felony conviction of whatever charge - but that's all they'll see.
Whenever you have a conviction on the records the best tact is to have it out in the open early in the process (not the first sentence but soon). Try to fashion it as the biggest mistake in your life. Tell them what you have learned form the experience and why, in a way they may not have considered, it has made you a strong candidate for the job they are looking to fill.
Will it work every time? No - as you know this will be tough to overcome. However being open and positive will keep a lot of people from simply slamming the door in your face.
