Find answers to your legal question.

I am a retired secretary - I am going to an interview at K-Mart tomorrow--do I need a resume?

My past experience has nothing to do with what I am applying for and I wasn't told to bring one - anyone who already has been interviewed, did you bring a resume? Were you sorry you didn't bring one if you didn't.

Thanks for all the prompt answers - you are all right, and I should have known that - been retired too long I guess. The best info I gathered was about having the dates and names in front of me. Thanks

Treat every job as a professional job.
But if their like Walmart, them yokels will make you do a stupid fill in the blank form anyway, which is it good to have your resume for - for the dates, addresses, contacts, etc.

I used to work as a human resource associate before I became a teacher. And my answer to your question is a big exciting "yes". Always bring an updated resume with you when you go to an interview whether you were told by the HR associate or not. This is standard operating procedure even if you think your previous work experience has very little or no bearing at all with this new job you're applying for. It is because aside from the job nature specific questions that the interviewer would ask you, he would also be basing some part of the interview on what you have written in your CV.

Good luck! Just be truthful and be yourself! You'll do just fine. ;)

When I was hired I didn't need a resume. My past jobs were listed on the application and she basically just asked me about those. I was hired and worked with them for three years. It won't hurt to bring one in though. If they ask for it you will be prepared. Good luck!!

Yes, I think so. You need a resume.

Better to have one withy you and not need it than to be asked for one and not have it with you.
How difficult is it to fold one up, stick it in an envelope and put it in your pocket?

I would say a resume that is not too long and detailed. Just a short and to the point one.

I always bring at least a one-page resume to every job. If nothing else, it shows the length of time you've worked for previous employers (demonstrates stability) even if it has nothing to do with the present job.

Better to bring it and not need it, than leave it at home and not have it.

Yes, the same thing happened with me. I used to be a cashier/stock person at Rite Aid, and the position I applied for is for a food porter (someone who helps in the hospital kitchen), which has NOTHING to do with my previous job. They called my old job for reference, so yes it was important. I hope you get your new job, good luck :-)
