I applied for a job and the employer has a source to verify education of study. I put down i had a G.E.D.?

I applied for an job and i passed the test and will be going in for an interview in 2 days. I received a call from the employer's outside source stating that they could not locate my G.E.D. Docs.from when I got it.. I frantically ran to the learning center to get a copy and come to find out I had completed all but 1 test. 15 years later I come to find out I didn't finish my g e d and have to retake it becasue a new law came in 2002 that makes me retake the whole exam. I scheduled for it already to take test, but I'm concerned as to what I should explain to the employer that is looking to interview me. I can't understand why this happened. I was with my former employer for over 8 yrs and they they reveiwed all info and came back ok so i was under the assumption i had it. this goes as far back as 1995

just explain what happened and let the chips fall where they fall. if you lie, your done, if you don't show up, your done. your only chance is to explain what happened, and hope they understand

Be honest about it IF they ask at the interview. Explain it the way you did here, apologize ONCE (and be sincere) for your mistaken understanding, tell them you have scheduled to retake the test. Don't beg and don't sound desperate, but let them know that if given the opportunity, you could prove yourself to be an asset to the company. Good luck.
