If you work 8 hours, you get break, lunch, break.
If you work six hours, you get break, break
Your boss is a tyrant |

Here is exactly what you are looking for, straight from California Human Resources.
http://www.calchamber.com/HRC/BusinessResources/ThisMonth/ItsAboutTime/CaliforniaTimekeepingRequirements.htm
Check out what it says under meal breaks. If you are willing to clock out for 30 minutes you should be good. Just realize that your employer can keep you on the clock if he wants, as long as he is paying you. |

Do you like your job? They are so hard to come by now a days. Since you know you are only getting 10 mins. then make sure you eat before you go in. Take a snack with you that will give you energy. If you can, chew gum inbetween if you won't get in trouble at your job.
All Laws are different in different States. How long have you been at this job? Does everyone only get 10 minutes? Good Luck. |

That is a state law question. What state are you in? |

Depends on what state you live in, we're not legally obliged to have one where I live, but we get one anyway. |

I believe they have to give you 15 minutes. Legally you are not entitled to a half hour break unless you work a total of 8 hours. For 10-12 hour shifts, you are entitled to 2, 15 minute breaks and 1, half hour break. Hope this helps. |

no no no no no i don't tolerate this |

Yeah that sounds fine...,besides just because its illegal doesn't mean they cant do it.It just means there is a price to pay.
I worked at a factory that had elevated level of chloroform, and it was cheaper to pay the fine every year than to comply with the law.
Besides they can fire you whenever. For whatever.
You cant go 6 hours without eating? You must be pampered.Dont worry it gets easier.
What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. |

You are entitled to a 10 minute paid break (for each 4 hours worked) and a 30 minute unpaid meal break (for any day that exceeds 5 hours.) |

Depends on the state, though usually a 15 is customary. A 1/2 hour is usually only earned if you worked over 6 hours. If they only schedule you for a 6 hour shift, you are out of luck, though a 15 minute break (usually will be paid) is pretty standard.
Write your state reps and senators (not federal as it varies from state to state) or check out your states website, usually under a department of labor or a section "for businesses". |

Yes, it is legal to skip the meal break if the shift ends in 6 hours. You get a 10-minute rest period for every four hours of work. So, if your shift ends in 6 hours, you are entitled to 1 ten-minute rest period.
More on this at www.dol.gov, under "wage and hour law" - good luck. |

By law, if you work a five hour shift, you are entitled to a 30 mins lunch break in california! |

Yes. Because you are only working 6 hours. Do you really only work 6 exact hours?? are you punching a time clock? Because if you do and you stay 6 hrs. and 1 min. then they are in violation and you have proof from their time clock!!!
here is the law:
California labor law requires that employees periodically be allowed to take meal breaks. Specifically, the law requires:
No employer shall employ any person for a work period of more than five (5) hours without a meal period of not less than 30 minutes, except that when a work period of not more than six (6) hours will complete the day’s work the meal period may be waived by mutual consent of the employer and the employee. Unless the employee is relieved of all duty during a 30 minute meal period, the meal period shall be considered an “on duty” meal period and counted as time worked. An “on duty” meal period shall be permitted only when the nature of the work prevents an employee from being relieved of all duty and when by written agreement between the parties an on-the-job paid meal period is agreed to. The written agreement shall state that the employee may, in writing, revoke the agreement at any time. California Code of Regulations, Title 8, §11040.
So....if you work 6 hrs. and 1 minute then you should technically been given a 30 min. lunch BEFORE your 5th hour of work |
