I got a new job and I'm not paid for required Meetings & Classes, why?

Also, they make me pay for the classes. The times for these take anywhere from 2 - 8 hours of my nonworking days. This is a Health Occupational job but I've worked at fast food and they paid for all this. Are they trying for extra cash or is this legal?

If it is for classes for certifications, it may be quite likely you are responsible for paying for them (much like electricians, other skilled trades, real estate agents, etc...they (and many other careers) are required to take certification and re certification testing).
If you pay for them out of pocket (and are not reimbursed) KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS as they ARE tax deductible!

This isnt right - If you have to pay for it then i would suggest that you dont have to do it.
Talk to someone who would know.. Some sort of Citizens advice would be best but this is either unnesessary, illegal... Or both!
