i recently got laid off from a steady position i had for 2 years which was paid to me on an independent contractor basis - i got a Form 1099 at the end of the year. I filed and paid for my own California and Federal taxes. Can I file for unemployment?

I don't think so since technically you are not an employee. Check with your state. |

No, sorry, independent contractors aren't eligible for unemployment. Employers pay into the uc fund for employees, but contractors aren't covered. |

Yes you can but only for 6 months and you have to also show the effort that you are looking for another job, but they will take the wages that you earned and you will only get a fraction of that so for instance if you were making 2,000 a month then you will only get between 800 to 1200 a month. |
